‘For Freedom’ to open Iran’s 12th Cinema Verite

Iran's Cinema Verite is to open its 12th edition with Iranian documentary ‘For Freedom’.

Iran's international documentary film festival, Cinema Verite, has set to open its 12th edition with Iranian documentary ‘For Freedom’ by Hossein Torabi.

Referring to the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the secretary general of the 12th Cinema Verite, Seyyed Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaeenejad, said the event will screen documentaries on the revolution in a special section of this year’s event.

Tabatabaeenejad also noted that a newly edited version of ‘For Freedom’ of the 1980, which was inscribed on the British Film Institute Southbank’s list of Ten Documentaries That Shook the World, will be displayed in that section.

‘Pulse of History’ (1979) by Asghar Fardoust and Davoud Kanani, ‘New Blood’ (1979) by Kianoush Ayyari as well as ‘Search 1’ (1980) by Amir Naderi are among the 11 films set to be screened at this section.

Organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the first edition of Cinema Verite was held in 2007.

Over the past decade it has emerged as one of the important events on Iran's documentary film calendar.

The 12th edition of the Cinema Verite is slated for December 9-16, 2018.
